Voting Question: Adding a TV in a Courtyard?

Monday, September 29th, 2008

I want to instal a +/- 50″ TV in a courtyard area. Based on the desired viewing location I can install a window in the wall of my garage and mount the TV inside the garage where it will be secure and protected from the elements. This installation won’t dramatically impact the garage. I’m hoping I’ll be able to find a bracket that allows the TV to be pulled away from the window and swiveled 180 degrees to allow viewing in the garage as well as in the courtyard. Finding the magic bracket is not my main concern

My main concern whether the TV will be viewable in daylight (brightness and glare) . The area is shaded most of the day but during certain times of the year there would be some bright sun.

1. Is this type of location/installation viable for day time viewing.
2. Are some types of screens better suited for this type of installation?
3. LCD vs Plasma?
4. If the screen is mounted directly behind glass is there a certain type of glass that would best to use?
5. Any idea where I can find the magical bracket?

I have considered a weatherproof/outdoor TV but they are pretty pricey. If mounting in the window behind glass is not recommended an outdoor enclosure could be an option assuming there’s one that also provides some security.

Voting Question: 37" LCD TV wall-mount installation?

Monday, September 29th, 2008

I bought a 32″ LCD TV and a wall-mount for 23″-40″, up to 100lbs weight. The installer used 3 big screws in the middle of the mount to hold . After 3 weeks, I decided to return the TV and get a bigger 37″. Can I hang this new 37″ tv with 10lbs heavier to the wall-mount I used for 32″? Is it safe? Do I need to add more screws into it?
I mean mount for 23″ to 40″ TV…

Resolved Question: Will best buy (for instance) mount a flat panel LCD into a brick fireplace?

Monday, September 29th, 2008

I know it can be done just wondering if I bought a Flat Panel from retail and I pay for installation if the installers would drill into brick to mount the TV or is too difficult a task.

Resolved Question: Is my monitor capable of running latest graphics cards?

Monday, September 29th, 2008

I’m going to buy a graphics card. But I don’t know whether my monitor is able to run it. In the graphics card installation guide, it says,”Hook up your graphics card to your monitor.” But in the back of my monitor, there is no place to hook up anything accept for CPU. Does that mean, the graphics card won’t work if I don’t hook it up with my monitor?

My monitor is a 14″ eMachines LCD.
